Holy Mountain Salkantay – Detailed Itinerary

Mt. Salkantay Expedition - The Four WindsWe ascend to Salkantay Lagoon at 15,750 feet, overlooking the Vilcabamba Range, and receive the high rites from our Q’ero shaman. There simply are no words to describe the beauty and peace one feels here.

June 25th:
  • Cusco/Sacred Valley arrival day
  • Meet in the Cusco Airport for local transfer to our Hotel in the Sacred Valley
  • Settle into your room and get acquainted with your surroundings
  • Evening opening ceremony with the Laika shamans
June 26th:
  • Pisac
  • Breakfast included
  • Morning hike to Mt. Pisac
  • Ceremony in the ruins with the shamans to set our intentions and prayers for the Holy Mountain expedition
  • Lunch on your own and shopping in Pisac Square ~ market day
June 27th:
  • Sacred Valley
  • Breakfast included
  • Hike to Pumamarca for ceremony with the shamans
  • Pumamarca means “Place of the Sacred” or “Golden” Puma
  • One of the oldest Inka palaces in existence
  • Picnic lunch included at the site
June 28th:
  • Breakfast included
  • Machu Picchu (optional day trip) – a free day otherwise
  • Morning departure by train to Machu Picchu
  • Archeological tour of the fabled “City of Light”
  • Hike to the Temple of the Moon and the Sun
  • Shopping in the village of Aguas Caliente
  • Afternoon return to the Sacred Valley by train
  • Additional cost for Machu Picchu – you must pre-register for this tour
June 29th:
  • Breakfast included
  • Moray/Maras ~ We hike past the primeval salt flats at Maras
  • Later we do ceremony in the Belly of the Mother at Moray, an ancient temple of the Inka
  • Picnic lunch at the site included
  • The group will spend this evening in Cusco to facilitate early departure for Salkantay
June 30th:
  • Salkantay
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner included
  • Early in the morning we travel to Mollepata to begin our trek to Salkantay
  • We meet the Laika and our expedition crew and begin our ascent
  • Camp at Soray Pampa
July 1st:
  • Salkantay
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner included
  • We hike past surrealistic mountainscapes and camp at Ichupata, at the foot of Mt. Salkantay
  • Our campsite overlooks the Vilcabamba mountain range, the last stronghold of the Inka
July 2nd:
  • Salkantay
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner included
  • We hike to Salkantay Lagoon at 15,750’ for a day of ceremony and rites
  • Camping on the mountain
July 3rd:
  • Salkantay
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner included
  • We begin our descent to Cruz Pata and our final camp at Soray Pampa
  • Camping on the mountain
July 4th:
  • Salkantay/Sacred Valley
  • Breakfast included
  • We will stop for lunch in a town along the way
  • We meet our motor coach and travel back to the Sacred Valley
July 5th:
  • Sacred Valley/Cusco
  • Breakfast included
  • We travel to Cusco for shopping and exploration of the city on our own
  • Optional walking tours of Cusco
  • Visits to the Cathedral, Temple of the Coricancha and Main Square
  • Evening ~ closing and fire ceremony
July 6th:
  • Cusco/Lima
  • Breakfast included
  • Early morning transfer to the Cusco Airport
  • Morning flight back to Lima to continue home or to the Amazon expedition
