Los toltecas y otras sociedades mesoamericanas adoraban a la serpiente alada Quetzalc\u00f3atl, un dios que era due\u00f1o de los vientos y el cielo, y protector de su pueblo. Como todos los pueblos nativos americanos, los laika se consideran cuidadores de toda la vida y se esfuerzan por vivir en armon\u00eda con la naturaleza y comunicarse directamente con ella. Los ind\u00edgenas americanos tienen muchas danzas tradicionales de animales (como las de la serpiente, el \u00e1guila y el ciervo), en las que los participantes se ponen las pieles de los animales para encarnar sus esp\u00edritus y poder moverse con m\u00e1s facilidad en su mundo durante la caza o el viaje. Al invocar el esp\u00edritu de ese animal, encarnan su esencia, y al llevar su piel o sus plumas se ven potenciados por sus atributos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cuando un bailar\u00edn indio Osage se pon\u00eda un tocado de b\u00fafalo, era para pedir permiso para quitarle la vida a un b\u00fafalo, con la esperanza de que el animal se renovara con vida al a\u00f1o siguiente. Los Osage no trataban de exterminar al b\u00fafalo, lo honraban y respetaban sus impresionantes poderes. Comprendieron que pod\u00edan morir pisoteados por estas magn\u00edficas bestias con la misma facilidad con la que pod\u00edan conseguir hacerse con una durante la cacer\u00eda.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Al vivir respetando la naturaleza, formando parte de su car\u00e1cter c\u00edclico y comprendiendo su lugar en ella, los Osage tomaban s\u00f3lo lo que necesitaban para alimentarse y, a su vez, sus recursos se renovaban una y otra vez. Nada pod\u00eda contrastar m\u00e1s con esto que la llegada del hombre blanco al Oeste americano en los siglos XVIII y XIX: Cazaron b\u00fafalos con fines lucrativos y deportivos y masacraron millones de animales, provocando la desaparici\u00f3n de los grandes reba\u00f1os y acelerando el fin del estilo de vida natural de muchas tribus ind\u00edgenas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hoy en d\u00eda, en nuestra cultura de orientaci\u00f3n comercial, la imaginer\u00eda animal se utiliza a menudo en la publicidad o como logotipo empresarial porque respondemos intuitivamente al significado de los atributos de cada animal. Sabemos lo que significa el jaguar cuando se trata de un deportivo: ser\u00e1 elegante, r\u00e1pido y elitista, igual que este animal es uno de los m\u00e1s veloces y venerados de la selva. El cami\u00f3n m\u00e1s vendido de Dodge se llama Ram para dar a entender que se desenvuelve con soltura en terrenos rocosos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pero aparte de las im\u00e1genes arquet\u00edpicas utilizadas en publicidad, la mayor\u00eda de nosotros hemos perdido nuestro sentido de la conexi\u00f3n con todos los animales, salvo los m\u00e1s domesticados.
