Understanding the Shaman’s Dream Oracle

A dream itself, is an oracle. Oracles impart wisdom from a divine source, from beyond your own ego.  Dreams access a story that is hidden to us, allowing us to go deeper into our own understanding of ourselves and the world at large.  They reveal beauty and truths that are elusive because we are looking for what we expect and can know intellectually.  The power of dreams is well known cross-culturally.  Many traditions’ creation myths speak of the world as having been dreamed into being.  Carl Jung described dreams as expressions of the collective unconscious, filled with meaningful symbolism that corresponds to elements within the dreamer’s own psyche.

Shamans of the Americas say that we dream the world into being through the very act of witnessing it. Working with this oracle is meant to evoke the experience of a shaman’s journey into the dream world. The remarkable characters you meet and the extraordinary places you will visit in this oracle are rich with meaningful symbolism that taps into the realm of archetypes and the collective unconscious, the spiritual common ground shared by ancient mystics and modern scientists alike.  They may correspond to potential experiences you meet in the waking world or contain messages from your subconscious, pointing to something in your life that you need to attend to.

This deck has 64 cards, each depicting dreamscapes, symbolic places, and spirit beings you might meet on your journey to co-create your world and manifest your most precious intentions.  The best questions to ask the Oracle are open-ended questions like:

  1. What do I need to know about my situation for the highest good?
  2. What will be the results if I take these actions?
  3. What do I need to change to improve things?
  4. How can I improve my situation?

For a one-card reading simply ask your question then pull a single card.  Allow your reading to percolate before deciding you know exactly what it’s about.  Oracles have an uncanny way of tracking your energy, your state of mind, what is now or has been influencing you.

A three-card reading will give you a picture of the past, present, and future of the topic or situation at hand.  This reading is particularly useful in finding the source of blocks and obstacles in matters relating to Work/Wealth, Relationships, Personal and Spiritual Growth, and Health and Well-being. Draw three cards, placing them faceup in front of you from left to right. The card to the left represents the past, the card in the center represents the present, and the card to the right represents the possible future.  As you hold each card in your hand you will find a message from each one, including the dangers and opportunities it holds.

A four-card reading will enable you to track where you are, what is influencing you, and where you might land.  Remember though, that no matter how likely a particular scenario might seem, there are always opportunities for change.  Draw four cards, placing them in front of you from left to right.  Card 1 represents where you are now, Card 2 represents potential obstacles or assistance, Card 3 represents what is hidden that needs to be revealed, Card 4 represents the possible outcome for the highest good.

Are you ready to find beauty and truths in your dreams?
